A588 weathering steel house on Fuerteventura

2019-10-23
This is a Fuerteventu A588 weather-resistant steel house designed by Ilya Escario, located at the foot of the volcano on the northern shore of Fuerteventura, Spain, with a spectacular 360-degree panoramic view. The height difference between the middle sections of the site is about 2.4 meters, forming two platforms. On the lower platform is a rectangular concrete block (basement) that supports the upper (ground floor) block of graphite-colored ceramic sheets.
The shades of gray and the tones of the A588 weathering steel make the building almost blank in the environment. The rectangular architectural layout obscures the northerly winds throughout the year, and the wooden platform to the south is thus usable. The roof is suspended by steel beams, so the south line of sight is not obstructed by any columns.
The ground floor is divided into two spaces by a stone wall, one side is equipped with a living room, a kitchen, a dining room, and the other side is equipped with two en-suite bedrooms. A wooden module separates the kitchen from the entrance space, the cabinet and the bathroom. The steel spiral staircase in the dining area connects the first floor of the building with the basement of two en-suite bedrooms and equipment. Due to the original landscape surrounding the residence, some local positions have been planted in the project to integrate with the natural scenery.
