Application of Corten Steel Plate

2020-01-18
The weathering steel plate is a Cu-P series anti-corrosion steel plate, also called corten steel plate, and the common material is Corten-A, which is a low-alloy high-strength steel. Due to the addition of some corrosion-resistant elements, the steel's atmospheric resistance is improved Corrosive.

Weathering steel is made of ordinary carbon steel with a small amount of corrosion resistant elements such as copper and nickel. It has the characteristics of toughness, plastic extension, forming, welding, abrasion, high temperature, fatigue resistance, etc. of high-quality steel; weather resistance is 2-8 times that of ordinary carbon steel, and paintability is 1.5-10 times that of ordinary carbon steel.

The addition of phosphorus, copper, chromium, nickel and other trace elements to the steel will form a dense and highly adherent protective film on the surface of the steel, hinder the spread and development of rust, and protect the substrate below the rust layer to slow its corrosion rate. An amorphous spinel-type oxide layer having a thickness of about 50 μm to 100 μm formed between the rust layer and the substrate is dense and has good adhesion to the substrate metal. Because this layer of dense oxide film prevents the oxygen and water in the atmosphere from penetrating into the steel substrate, slowing down the rust development to the steel material, and greatly improving the steel material's resistance to atmospheric corrosion.

At the same time, it has the characteristics of thinning and reducing consumption, saving labor and energy. Weathering steel is mainly used for steel structures such as railways, vehicles, bridges, and towers that have been exposed to the atmosphere for a long time. It is used to manufacture structural parts such as containers, railway vehicles, petroleum derricks, seaport buildings, oil platforms and containers containing hydrogen sulfide corrosive media in chemical petroleum equipment.

Compared with stainless steel, weathering steel has only a small amount of alloying elements, such as phosphorus, copper, chromium, nickel, molybdenum, niobium, vanadium, and titanium. The total amount of alloying elements only accounts for a few percent, so the price is relatively low.
