2019-12-02
“Humanistic and dignified projects. The space is open and accessible, and the materials are wonderful. The door welcomes the homeless people who are willing to change. The A588 Gr.A weathering steel landscape space is designed to be like home, and is recognizable” Create a pure land for the homeless.
More than 2,000 people sleep in the streets every night in Portland, Oregon. These long-term unemployed and poor people are harassed by different problems such as domestic violence, physical and mental illness, alcohol abuse and drugs. Maybe we can't imagine ourselves like this, but the designers communicate with the government agencies to learn more about the situation, and at the same time get to know the homeless people and talk face to face with them, listening to them full of emotions, twists and turns, sometimes moving There are also hopeful stories. Make ample preparation for the design. After more than one year of communication and preparation, the construction project led by A588 Gr.A weathering steel began.
First, an 8-story, 106,000-foot A588 Gr.A weathering steel building, a drain on the Corten-A weathering steel yard, and a steel basin underneath were built for the homeless. Provides soothing water sounds on rainy days. They were provided with 130 units of apartments, while providing 90 temporary care beds for physically unhealthy and mentally unstable male tramps. Finally, daily resources (shower, telephone) and training services (coaching for alcoholism, training of professional skills) are arranged here.
In this comprehensive function of the A588 Gr.A weathering steel construction project, there is a public courtyard that connects the entrance to the building. This courtyard is designed to serve a wide variety of people, coordinate with the surrounding Old Town / Chinatown, and maintain good accessibility with the surrounding light rail stations, bus stations and other transportation sites.
The project received LEED Platinum certification. The ecological roof is perfectly integrated with the rainwater management system. Durable and recyclable A588 Gr.A, Corten-A weathering steel and concrete are selected for the material. Plants are mostly drought tolerant plants and native plants.
At the same time, this project has broad social significance, can promote the sustainable development of society and economy, and has a positive impact on the reduction of violence and street conflicts.
Most importantly, the psychological and emotional considerations of the A588 Gr.A weathering steel construction project have also played a positive role in the lives of the homeless, allowing them to step out of the shadows of the past and work harder to embrace the future.
This project, created by landscape architects, architects and other professionals, is a A588 Gr.A weathering steel construction project that not only deals with problems, but also actively solves problems. Unleashed a new chapter in the lives of homeless people and motivated them to face the challenges of the future.
