Corten Steel MTA Plaza, Carroll Street, Rucklin, New York

2019-09-30
Corten Steel MTA Plaza on Carroll Street is a strategic, small-scale public project that has a major impact on the quality of everyday life. The design addresses the main issues at the scene: motion and sound. Below is the train traffic, pedestrians in and out of the station. Bluestone paving, stacked Corten A weathering steel plantations and stratified drought-tolerant plant landscapes create an iconic New Brooklyn Square and mediate between different space stakeholders: a historic Brooklyn area Quiet residential area.
The project received a special award in the 2013 Architizer A + Architecture and Urban Transformation Award. The designer set up a 24-inch plantation bed in the garden, which is a hotbed of plants, and also divides the site into multiple paths. The color of the plants and Corten steel adds vitality to the garden.
