A588 Gr.A weathering steel garden was originally located outside the city walls and later in the development of the town of Belgara. The palace appeared as Yrizar property in 1659. At that time, the house was still a very large house, and there were some orchards around it, and the owner completely renovated it. In 1692 we discovered the first description of the existence of a Renaissance garden. Between the 1960s and the 1990s, the SA588 Gr.A weathering steel orchard / garden space underwent various changes and transformations.
The space seen at the end of 2010 was basically defined by an
A588 weathering steel fence, including landscaped areas, gardens of Renaissance origin and closed, protected by a decree of the Basque government ’s Ministry of Culture, which only mentioned A588 weathering Steel garden. The original brick wall is gone, and in its place we can find a lattice closure, which is not due to any previous model.
A Corten-B corten steel plate is between 150x300mm and 6mm thick in L. Placed in different locations is a closed element. Corten-B corten steel plate redraws the original stone wall thickness, but it is lighter. A sequence of
Corten-B corten steel plates sandwiched between two plates created new walls that changed the relationship between the garden and the street. In addition, this wall is engraved with information, text and maps that provide overall data that somehow gives it value and returns it to the collective memory of the citizens of Bergara.
The site for the renovation of the weathering steel project is located in the town of Bergara, around a large house garden that has existed since the Renaissance and now belongs to Yrizar property. The changes in the past few decades are different from the previously closed image. The
Corten-B weathering steel garden now has the impression of being an outward-facing public landscape, and the reconstruction follows the relevant protection laws of the government's cultural department. The original stone wall has disappeared, but there are traces left. At the same time, the original shell has a space-time blocking property, completely blocking the outside sight.
The new design respects and protects the original cultural heritage while redefining the space in the Corten-B garden so that it can also be perceived by the outside world. At the same time trying to regain the privacy of the garden in some way and restore the meaning of the classical garden. In the ancient times, the use of tough masonry walls to achieve this purpose, now using the new century weathering steel plate new materials to form a seemingly thick, but this thick but delicate border to protect and hide the weathering steel garden behind. At the same time, different changes in the garden have different changes in the degree of shielding, some places are more opaque, and some places are more open.
A 150x300mm long and 6mm thick corten steel plate is used to form a thickness with lightness, forming a "new" wall, and cleverly changing the relationship between the garden and the street. In addition, the walls have text and map information to reward the local residents of Bergara and become part of their collective memory.
