Advantages of welding process for pressure vessel production

2020-04-15 15:54:10
The welding process used in the production of pressure vessels is a submerged arc welding process. What are the advantages?

The first is the good quality of the pressure vessel welds. This is because the arc and the molten pool are under the protection of flux and slag during submerged arc welding, and the protection effect is better than that of electrode arc welding. Secondly, the presence of flux also slows down the solidification rate of the molten pool metal. There is more time for metallurgical reaction between the liquid metal and the molten flux, reducing the possibility of defects such as porosity and cracks in the weld. In addition, during submerged arc welding, the welding parameters can be kept stable through automatic adjustment, the technical level of the welder is not high, the composition of the weld is stable, the surface is beautifully formed, and the mechanical properties are good.

The cost of welding in pressure vessels is then lower. This is firstly because the welding current used in submerged arc welding is large, which can make the weldment have a larger penetration depth. Therefore, the submerged arc welding can not open the bevel or the small bevel, which saves the cost of processing the bevel. Consumed weldment metal and working hours also reduce the amount of filler wire in the weld. In addition, because the metal splash is very small during welding, and there is no loss of the electrode head, the filler metal is also saved. In addition, the heat of the submerged arc welding is concentrated and the thermal efficiency is high, so the electrical energy consumed per unit length of the weld is also greatly reduced.

In addition, because the submerged arc welding realizes the mechanization of the welding process and the operation is relatively simple, the operator only monitors the flux during the welding process, thereby greatly reducing the labor intensity of the welder. In addition, during submerged arc welding, the arc burns under the flux layer, without the harmful effects of arc light, and emits less smoke and harmful gases.
